Composed entirely of replications of scenes from Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo, Best ditches the male gaze, putting a female spin on the iconic film’s imagery and psychological thrills. Shot on 35mm, Best functions as a music film, following the psychic fragmentation of its protagonist, Amani Starnes.
Shatara Michelle Ford is a black American filmmaker born in Arkansas and raised in Missouri. In 2010 she received an MFA in Screenwriting from Royal Holloway, University of London. She became a Film Independent Project Involve Fellow in 2014 and her script, Queen Elizabeth, featured on the 2017 Black List.
